Un Van Gogh peut en cacher un autre

Une équipe internationale a découvert qu'un portrait de femme réalisé par Vincent Van Gogh se cachait depuis 121 ans sous une célèbre toile du maître hollandais représentant une prairie verdoyante. L'huile, intitulée Grasgrond (un coin d'herbe) et peinte en 1887 à Paris, est conservée par le musée Kröller-Müller d'Otterlo aux Pays-Bas. On sait que, pour des raisons économiques, Van Gogh avait pour habitude de peindre sur certaines de ses œuvres. Les experts estiment qu'un tiers de ses tableaux recèlent une autre œuvre. Cette découverte a été rendue possible par une nouvelle technique de radiographie, utilisée pour la première fois sur une toile, permettant de révéler une peinture sous une œuvre plus récente. Les procédés généralement utilisés pour révéler les différentes couches de peinture recouvrant une toile, comme les rayons X conventionnels, avaient montré leurs limites.

Puisqu'on parle de Van Gogh, il faut savoir qu'en nollandais, cela se prononce "Fan RoRrr", avec un beau R venant du fond de la gorge. Cela sonne de suite moins bien.

An international team discovered that a woman portrait realized by Vincent van Gogh was hidden under a famous canvas from the Dutsch Master for 121 years, representing a green grassland. The oil paint, named Grasgrond (Green spot) and painted in 1887 in Paris, is retaine in the Kröller-Müller museum in Otterlo, The Netherlands. It is quite known, for economic reasons, that Van Gogh used to paint on already used canvas. This deiscovery has been made possible thanks to a new technique of radioscopy, used ofr the first time on a paint, allowing to reveal one paint under a more recent one. The usual processes used to display the different layers of paint covering a canvas, such as conventionnal X-ray, showed their limits.

As we talk about Van Gogh, you must know that, in dutch, the prononciation is "Fan RoRr", with a nice R coming from the back of the throat. That sounds horrible, isn't it?
